I have great news. Because you refused to give up, minutes ago, the House of Representatives finally joined the Senate in passing a meaningful Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). This took way too long but is proof that your advocacy and your voice matters.
VAWA provides shelter and justice to abused women and protects families. It is the foundation of our efforts to combat domestic violence. Thank you for helping make it happen.
This has been another…Continue

The Senate just voted. The Violence Against Women Act could again be law in
just days. But we've got a big problem standing in the way -- Eric Cantor
and House Republicans.
Every day that goes by without the House passing
VAWA is a national embarrassment. Every day that goes by without passing
VAWA means that women are suffering and dying because Republicans like Eric
Cantor aren't doing the right thing.

Senate Vote on VAWA
February 07, 2013
The Senate's bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), S. 47, has 62 co-sponsors, which should guarantee VAWA's passage in the Senate today. NNEDV will continue to watch and provide updates as the Senate's vote takes place. If you have not yet done so, please contact your Senators and urge them to vote "yes" on S. 47 without any amendments!

Here's a telling stat: Since the Violence Against Women Act was enacted in 1994, incidents of domestic violence have fallen by more than 50 percent.
But now VAWA has expired -- and House Republicans refuse to reauthorize it. Here's the bottom line: Programs to protect women can't be expanded or improved until VAWA is reauthorized:

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), enacted in 1994, recognizes the insidious and pervasive nature of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking and supports comprehensive, effective and cost saving responses to these crimes. VAWA programs, administered by the Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services, give law enforcement, prosecutors and judges the tools they need to hold offenders accountable and keep communities safe while…

Linda, I am with you. There is a craziness abroad in our country. Too many men have not grown up, are still little boys playing with their assault rifles, and woe to anyone trying to take it from them. Unfortunately, there is the NRA which is the lobbying arm of the weapons manufacturers, pure and simple. The combination of the two is deadly.
The 2nd amendment argument is specious in this case - you don't shoot deer or any other animal with assault weapons, you do not need high-speed…
